Banned but not out, yet..

Appears to be missing its ID tag in the front next to the latch. Hmmmm. Is it real or is it Memorex?

The '73 RS is the Holy Grail...you didn't know that? The current bid is not an unusual selling price...a little high for a touring model, but this one appears to be really, really, really nice!
A lightweight model would be worth quite a bit more, given similar condition. (edit) It's real. Here's a link to a discussion thread on the S registry board. http://d240157.u39.zeonhost.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7454

Hmmm, 2.7, "S" cams, MFI. The dreaded much maligned 2.7.
The Holy Grail, nice to hear. Need to hear more from those familiar with this model. The pictures show an imaculate car, top and bottom. Maybe I'll keep my '76S.

Doug,
I (and a lot of other mid year owners I think) find it amusing that the Carrera RS is the "Holy Grail" of all Porschedom (well, arguably I suppose by some)...but the Mid Year cars with their 2.7's are just "the worst". Sure, we all know there are big differences in the C-RS vs. the U.S. CIS 2.7's, but come on... from "greatest" to "worst" with the same basic engine and tub? I'm encouraged that lately more and more guys will acknowledge that many, many of the 2.7's still in service have largely had all the usual bugaboo's addressed by this time (30 years!): 11 blade fan, valve guides, dump the TR's, better oil pump and pressure fed chain tensioners.

"same basic engine"....Uh Dan, you're stretching things here...a LOT! About the only things the RS 2.7 and your 2.7 have in common are displacement and made by Porsche. Of course, you could always place your car on ebay, just to see if it will generate bids past 6 figures...

"Greatest to Worst."
Night to Day. Black to White. Any kind of opposite works when comparing those two. Then there's the power-to-weight issue. The RS 2.7 would be one of the best Porsche ever built, while the '74-77 911 2.7 would be...?

Been racing my 2.7 now for over seven years. Three years with the POC and recently with the PCA here in New Mexico.
Classed I stock and later I improved with the POC. I stock puts it in with those 3.0 SC's. Three years, three class championships. Came to New Mexico and ran stock against SC's, another class championship. Moved into a improved class with sticky tires and won again. Installed Webers, Solex Cams, JE 9.5 pistons, Torsion bars and turbo brakes. Same 2.7 motor. On my way to another class championship. Six class Championships in seven years with the same 2.7 motor, never split the case. 135k on the motor. Oh, by the way I do ALL my own work. Don't get me wrong SC's and Carrera's are fine cars. I don't get my jolly's picking on other models, I just run what I brung.

Isnt US $133,099.00 (Reserve not met) a bit much? A whole lotta car can be purchased for $133,099.00

Quote:
- MFI versus CIS - Differently shaped pistons (same compression as on '74 911S) - S camshafts - Slightly bigger intake port - Distributor with a different curve As for the rest of the engine, it's basically exactly the same as a 1974 911S engine. The value of these cars comes from their serial numbers, and their mystique and place in Porsche's history. They are prized for their (relative) rarity with respect to other Porsche 911s, and the image that they project. -Wayne

at least they corrected the motor from 4 cyl to 6 cyl......some "inspection".....that was probably 'Uncle Wolfgang' doing the early bidding at $133,000+
