Don't you hate it when this happens?
So some of my old friends where rolling through the area and called me up to meet them for dinner, it was cool and sunny out, why not take the p-car out. I back out of the garage and heard a weird metal grinding/moaning sound that really caught my attention. Taking it easy I drove it slow out towards the main road and I was able to reproduce the sound on the turns, that's it! She is going back in the garage and I'm taking the daily beater.

That sucks.... I knew I had a rust issue in the belly pan, and that body work repair I was saving for this winter. I guess the planned late summer Carb rebuild is just going to have to wait. Funny how quick your priorities change! Has anybody bought body parts from Restoration Design in Eaton Rapids, MI? Good company/parts? Wayne, sorry buddy, fall color tours are looking a little iffy at the moment... Anybody got a TIG welder and knows how to use it? :rolleyes: (Note to self; spell check the subject header before posting) |

What the heck is that? It looks like a 914. I didn't know 911s did that too.
I just went outside and bent down and kissed the ground and remembered why i put up with the traffic and high costs of Southern California. That is just plain ugly. Not just regular ole fat girl ugly, way worse than that. You should post a warning or something. |

The Restoration Design pieces are good. Pull the tank and the front end, start cuttin and weldin. A little POR-15, and Viola! It will turn out good as new.

Sammy's post about 914's was tongue-in-cheek. He, of all people, knows the difference between a 914 and a 911, having owned both.

Glad to hear a good vote for Restoration Design, I always like it when parts are (semi) local, thanks Jeremy.
I plan on picking up a "package D" that includes suspension pan with tow hook and gas tank support along with a right side battery box (rusted too). I am actually looking forward to do some body work; I wouldn't mind learning the skill of TIG welding. I am more worried about getting everything out of the way (electrical, and gas) with out making more of a mess. I do not have any body tools or a proper place to do the work, so I will definitely be budding up with an experienced auto body hobbyist. I enjoy bartering, any experienced auto body hobbyist need computer work done? ;) |
Jason, that sucks. Especially when you think about how we were driving it. I don't have the tools or skills to weld but there are a lot of great shops right in your town. I would maybe call the guys at AutoPort and see who they would recommend. Or maybe one of the guys at the shops you wrk at can help out. I guess we won't be rebuilding your carbs soon, eh? Don't worry, you can ride with me if you need your 911 fix:)

Scary....good luck with the fix!!! I have worked on my fair share of rusty cars and its something that I cringe at.
