Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of buying an 1976 911 Targa and am looking forward to working on it. Now, this car is faaarr from perfect but it is fairly complete. But for $1500.00 I think I'm getting a decent deal. The car already has a set of vintage BBS multi-piece wheels(15") and the body is in very good shape with minimal rust in the usual places like the front fenders near the windshield corners. The interior is complete an is in decebnt shape. The bad stuff is it has been sitting for a few years and the fuel system will need a thorough going through. And the electrical has been "worked on" by unknown and possibly unknowledgeable persons in the past. I am looking forward to any tips and advice that you may have for me. Thanks and Aloha! Tommy

If the wheels are straight, you can't go wrong. If the CIS injection is a mess, rip it off; buy yourself a set of Webers and you'll be in good shape.
The collective knowledge of this board would have saved Kennedy many years in his promise to put a man on the moon. You buy it, the guys here will do everything but turn the wrenches. We'll all smile when you come back and tell us how the sound of the engine raises the hairs on the back or your neck, or when you post your first photo standing in an empty engine bay. It's a fraternity; get down and give us twenty!

Hey, I wish I were in Honolulu!!!!
Seriously, you should first check the tank and change the fuel filter. If it were me, I would take the tank out and flush before even attempting to start. Fresh oil and filters is a good idea too. |

Oh, remember the "search" button is your friend. Use the search button and you'll find a wealth of information about everything you would ever want to know about your car.

Welcome, I have a '76 911S coupe (orginally from SoCal). I have the illustrated (exploded diagrams) factory parts catalogs for 74-77 911's that are more comprehensive than the parts CD that Porsche recently began selling. If you need a part number send me a PM.
You may find some information of interest in this thread: New BBS Member / 911 Owner Cheers, Jim Last edited by Jim Sims; 08-25-2005 at 10:22 AM.. |

Whatever you do, don't try to turn it over or start it right away. Do a search for "starting a stored engine" and follow the steps closely. If you do it right, you can save yourself a $$$$ rebuild right off the bat! Post a wanted ad for a weber carb kit in the parts for sale section here...CIS is great when maintained properly, but mistreated/stored CIS is a bear to get purring again.
We definitely need some pics of your $1500 911! Everybody loves a bargain. Hang ten for me bro! Last edited by jkarolyi; 08-26-2005 at 12:13 AM.. |
