Finally some pics - 80 SC Targa

Well, I've been reading here for awhile, and I finally got a couple of pics of my recent acquisition/project.

The car needs a lot of TLC, but runs and drives great, have receipts for a lot of good stuff already done (pop-off valve, etc.). It has Cordobeau Racing seats, but they recline which is nice. They make the installation of a car seat in the back a possiblity!

Got the car from a friend who got sideways with the state licensing folks - he can't use it for awhile..... He needed some green for the tax folks, and wanted to avoid the temptation. Paid too much, but it was for a friend in need.

Lots to do, but for now, just lots of smile time The pics were taken along side the Columbia River halfway between Portland and the Beach.

Nice looking car. Is a front spoiler on your to-do list? It would balance out the whale tail, at least aerodynamically. Congrats.

Been looking at the front spoilers. I think I need one.

From what I have been reading, it is not recommended to install the rear without a front? This tail is a factory Porsche tail, but definitely looks to be added on. I probably wouldn't install this one if I didn't have it, but it is kinda growing on me.

Since the car is a bit rough (it is a 10 at 2:00 kinda car ) I was thinking of a Targa RS concept. The air conditioning is not currently functional but I have already been evaluating that from the threads here.

The driver's door needs some work on the limiter, probably gonna just do the reinforcement on both while I am in there, and will replace hinge bushings also. Thinking of adding a remote unlock feature since I will be inside the doors already. Anyone done that?

Lots of other Ideas, and I will attempt to photo document all the work on it. I did a '67 912 in the mid '80's (stripped to metal, rebuilt the motor, etc) so I know generally what I am getting into. Been wanting another P-car since I sold the it. Here is a pic - seems that red is a theme to my life......

Right. The experts say if you only have one spoiler then it should be the front one. So you could either lose the tail or add the front spoiler. Of course if you are not going to be exceeding the speed limit, you may not notice any instability. But Pelicans never exceed the speed limit anyway.

Guess I'd better get that front spoiler pretty soon.

Sweet ride. I hope your friend isn't expecting to get that car back if he ever gets back on his feet!

I've never been a fan of Turbo tails on narrow or Carrera bodied cars. I'd pull that lid and trade/sell it for a stock decklid. Then don't worry about the front spoiler. Just my opin, of course!

Man...tooling along Columbia river in an open Porsche...that sounds like heaven to me...

You would appreciate the fact that my friend has his problems with the Corvallis Police Seeings as you're a Beaver fan (the team!) you probably know their lack of tolerance.

I agree on the tail, and have been looking for a nice replacement lid. However, it is growing on me a bit. It is on my list of changes, but quite a ways down at the moment.

Columbia River, Sunny Day, trouble is choosing which 6 cylinder to take, the Targa or the Valkyrie Cruiser. Both have manual air conditioning at the moment and it is 95 degrees today.

Thanks for the comments.

To be truthful, my Beaver icon is more about where we want to be than where we're from. Julie and I have our eye on the PNW for a big move in a few years. We were out there last fall for a "vacation" (a.k.a. "check out the area and see if we want to move there") and just absolutely fell in love with the Portland area. So thats our goal.

Being a sports fan, I have to pic a team to root for. I'll give you three guesses as to why I picked The Beavers....

I attended college and law school in Portland, some of the best 7 years of my life. Getting much, much more expensive to live there nowadays. I live just north about 45 minutes from there.

The PNW is pretty wonderful given my limited comparisons.

Yeah, we feel something of a sense of urgancy to get out there before it becomes cost prohibitive. Julie has just over two more years at Miami U (Ohio) before she's done. In the meantime, we're trying to save money by doing things like selling expensive Boxsters and buying cheap old 911s.

PNW is beautiful...perfect for us. Not that I've "been around", but I can't think of any other place I'd rather live. Certainly not here in the midwest...

When we do get out there, I'll be looking up other Pelicans for some compadre-ness!

My '78SC also came with a factory tail, but no spoiler. That was quickly pointed out here by other members as well.
I installed the chin spoiler myself. Took the valance off first. Just takes a little time to lay out the ends at the wheel well, but it goes on smoothly. It takes a LOT of holes (15 I think), so be prepared for some drilling on a piece that is awkward to hold firmly.
