How $$$ is to anodize trim??

i am repainting my '76 after installing a turbo S body kit.
I would like to have the chrome trim anodized, but i have no idea how expensive this can be. anyone has done this before?

Is it worth or should I go with paint?

in both cases what color of paint or anodize should i use?

Thanks

bump! No one having done this?

I believe your trim should be aluminum, not chromed brass. The current layer of anodize needs to be stripped; then cleaned, and a new layer of anodize. You can get them anodized in many diff. colors; but polished with clear anodize, or black will be the most popular on the frames. Are the door handles black or polished, what about the headlight trim rings?

I was looking to do this locally awhile back. I just wanted to get my lugnuts reanodized. There are different kinds of anodization (hard vs. soft), different colors, etc. This is an industrial process and I could not find anyone willing to do a small "custom" job. Also could not find a home anodization kit.

I think this is why we see so many people powdercoating parts that were origianlly anodized from the factory. I ended up painting my lugs.

Jerry,

Did you use Powder Coating Specialties near 6 and I70 ? Also are you now using a socket with a protective liner ?

Yes. I used Powdercoating Specialties to do my engine tin. They were great to work with and did a very nice job. For the lugs, I just shot them with SEMS.

Anodizing is difficult if your trim is not perfect. The imperfections show up. I recently powdercoated my trim and it seems to look quite like anodized and "covered" the imperfections really well. Before I powder coated the pieces they were sandblasted with very very fine silica. It removed the old anodizing and smoothed out the bumps and nicks. If you look really closely at anodized trim the small scratches that you get can't be fixed. I know powder cating is not the original look but it is much easier and less costly.
