info on supercharged '95 993?

the subject says it all. i'm looking at a supercharged '95 993, w/ TPC/Eaton supercharger. the car must be fast and feel much different than a normally aspirated 993. i'm unfamiliar with driving a supercharged car, though it must be more refined than a 930. anyone have experience with one?

Call Jim Tranby at Classic Auto repair in Sioux Falls SD. He installed it on on a 95 (i think) 993 Cab and his comments that is was close to the twin turbo. The Dr had both and it was for sale but thet was earlier this year. It went to Virginia when he moved. Telephone #605-335-1905. Jim may know if it still for sale.

I have a supercharged 84 911 carrera and it is violently fast (Twin turbos are no match for his car). I am sure it is a different beast then the 993 as mine is much lighter and the supercharger system is modified. I run 11 PSI mostly but with race gas I can run 16 and higher. This would yield approx 600 HP at the rear wheels. The power is immediate and linear so drivability is excellent. I caution you that I spent lots of $ and time to get the car where it is today so beware. My system uses the autorotor supercharger which is more instant then the Eaton unit, however the Eaton unit is also a fine system. Do you already have a car in mind or are you just looking for one? Why a supercharged car and not a turbo as they are plentiful and much easier to sort out?
In any case good luck.

Best regards

IS it OK to ask: How much did you spend and did you buy a kit OR build your own? Do you have any photos of your install?

Thanks,

Doug

Hi Doug,

I will be at work tomorrow so if you want you can call me at the number I gave you. Started with a supercharging of knoxville kit for $7500 and 350HP. The engine and supercharger alone ended at $17-20K. There were lots of upgrades to the whole car with the total spent so far at $53K. More to go as a Motec system and NOS are to be added. It never ends! Here are some pics. Let me know if you want more. Take care.

Best regards,

thanks guys. very cool car Gerry. i'm looking at one car in particular. here are the details from the ad...

Very nice 2 owner 993 with the following modifications,
TPC/Eaton supercharger
Brumos exhaust
Bilstein PSS9 suspension
18 inch turbo hollow spoke wheels
Recaro race seats
Sparco harnesses
Brey Krause harness truss
GT Racing carbon fiber front fenders, hood, and bumper/spoiler
RS door panels
etc.
all records and receipts totalling over $100K! Great car for track days or street.

silver on black. 65,000 miles.

he wants $34,900 for it. i may be able to work a deal with him for my 930, though i have a local enthusiast already interested in my car (which is 100% original and perfect).

any more advice/ info on this would be much appreciated.

WOW - Gerry - very cool car!! AND looks great! I've been trying figure out how to add some affordable HP. I seem to be snuffed on every angle. Yours is really nice!

Thanks for sharing. Work has kept my feet to the fire lately. Sorry I haven't broken away to call you.

That's the way to buy one of these. You pay $0.30 cents on the dollar for a great car. Looks like he used all the right parts. Drive it and if it runs like a bat outta hell, buy it. Just mke sure you throughly road test the car as they can be a ***** to get right. Keep your car if you can.

Good luck,
Gerry

Check the October issue of Excellence. There's a 993 with supercharger write up. Very cool. Go for it.

Tim,

Check the Rennlist 993 archives, and post the question too, if you like. I know there are at least three who have done the TPC s/c to their 993s and no only do they love it, they have racked up some good mileage and are reporting good reliability ...so far, anyway.
