a/c problems
 

hi.. i need help from you guys please, my 1979 porsche 911 a/c wont get ice cold. i put 2 cans of 134a, and the system wont take 3 cans, it gets up to 60 degrees only, no cooler than that, what can i do to get 45- 50 degrees 3 cans will make it blow hot air, i have to remove a can a total of 2 cans only also front condenser fan not working is that stoping it from getting cold what can i do thank you for the help.

Do a search on AC. There are lots of threads that go into great detail on this subject.

Not an expert, but do a search on Jim Sims and you'll find everything you want to know about pcar A/C. Your in Houston so its hot and muggy, you may only get 60 degrees. Are you using gauges? Its possible to overfill you should be getting 19-30 psi on low and 210 to 300 on high side. Search on "A/C Pressures" and you'll find Jims numbers. I thought mine was working OK, but at 105 today, I'm barely getting 48 degree vent temps, I want in the 30's, Jim suggested that I bleed out some 134a. I did a little and may try bleeding some more.

sylvester, I suggest you try John at Cool Flow (713-688-7525) in Houston near 610 and 290. He spent a couple plus hours (and only charged me for an hour) to adjust my system a year and a half ago. He's been in business since Packard installed ACs in their cars.

Try replacing the receiver / dryer with a ProCooler. Between that and changing the refrigerant to Enviro-Safe ES-12a, I went from 60* temps at center vent to 35*!! That is with outside air temps hovering near 100*

Yes, you need the front condensor fan to be working too!

fix that fan..otherwise, stop and go situations will be warm. i second or third the suggestion to try a search..tonnnnnnnnns of info on a/c systems on this board. your r-134 system also deoends on a certain amount of oil..you can actually have 'too much' r-134 in your system and cause it to run warmer rather than cooler. you might consider that..you may need to evacuate and start over. i recommend finding a good tech if you don't have experience evacuating refrigerants.
