Cold Start Problem SC

Hello,

My cold start problem began immediately after installing a new high torque starter.

The car is difficult if not impossible to start when cold. Turning the key on and letting it sit for 30 seconds or so will often lead to a short stumble.

Removing the air filter and lifting the sensor plate with the key on prior to trying to start will often cause it run briefly before stopping. Two or three tries of this often causes it to start.

My thinking is that the Cold start valve is not functioning. When installing the new starter there was a "SPARE" wire in the bundle of wires with the yellow ignition wire and red alternator wire. I new where to hook up the two named wires, but not the third one...

Any ideas where this mystery wire plugs in?

Thanks,
Matt

Yep, you didn't get the CSV wire on the correct terminal on the starter. Can't tell you exactly where it goes, but if it's not hooked up, try hooking it up...

Thanks for the input. I thought I would check for responses as the car is a being a pita to start this morning...

Any further insight as to where / how this hooks up would be appreciated. It seems to me that the high torque starter only came with one spade connector...

Perhaps this thread holds the answer? New Starter - Not enough connectors?

I don't think you can really screw this up. If you only have one spade connector on the solenoid of your new starter, you may be able to adapt the connector from your old solenoid onto it to give you the necessary two. If not, you could purchase a 1 into 2 adapter, but this would be less preferable as it would give you more moving parts to wiggle, corrode, etc.

Just wanted to confirm that the "Extra" wire with no place to attach to the new starter was indeed the culprit. It connects in the same location as the yellow wire from the ignition.

Matt, to the best of my recollection, there are two wires on the solenoid. the wire coming from the ignit switch, and the cold start wire. Both must be attached or you will suffer like you are now. Best,

ianc
