Hi Folks,
I'm currently thinking about buying the following car and would like your opinion. I haven't seen the car yet in person but will depending on feedback.
1974 911 with a 3.2 conversion documented by Redbones garage in Florida. Same owner since 98. AC needs a charge. Small 3 inch by 1/2 inch rust spot on the driver's floor by the gas pedal needs to be patched. Car was stripped to metal and repainted 5 yrs ago while 3.2 was being installed. Rust was at base of front and back windows, cut out and new metal put in. No other rust on car anywhere. Engine has DME brain, igintion and exhaust with bypass pipe. Engine currently has about 80k miles on it. Car has 133k miles. Tranny never rebuilt, but shifts strong. Regular list of maintenance records present since 98. Battery tray was rusty but not through and ground and re-sprayed. Body has small dings, nothing major. Owner is part of PCA and races other 911 in SCCA, so no time to drive this one.

What do you think? Please comment on any of the engine/underbody pics.

Looks like a steal at that price. A good 3.2 engine and tranny alone could cost you $6-7K, and even a cheap paint job would be $2-3K, so if rust is really confined to one spot on the floor, I would jump on it.

I think Turbobar6 is probably right. Remember what BA is always preaching about buying the best Porsche you can find not the best you can afford.

The '77 is galvanized and is a hell of a car in great condition (no affiliation). You gotta ask yourself, when something is too good to be true....like the white one for $8500.... , IS it for a reason?

I'd be leery of the "rust is only in one spot" idea. I think NOT. And if that even minimally turns out ot be true, you'll spent a lot more thant $4K to correctly repair it and repaint it.
