Anyone carry a full size spare?
I may take my 911 on a business trip up north and am worried about getting a flat and not having a reliable compact spare or cell phone service. So I thought about carrying a full size spare. Will a 15" wheel fit in the compact spare compartment? Is a full size spare lighter than the compact? Can I use a 15" wheel in a pinch?

did you notice when we were at the bridge for the last run i gave cbeers a 6x15 cookie cutter? he and i worked a deal that i give him one of my leftover 6" cookies for this very thing, a foo size spare. i have yet to mount a tire on my remaining one yet, but plan to very soon, just for our backroad type of excursions. i figured a spare like that would bring top $ when one of you guys gets a flat way out on mines rd. cash only, please.

Chris,
If you can swing a quick jaunt up here, I have several full size wheels and tires that you could borrow for the trip........not top shape, but for sure good enough for getting off the road and back to civilization. All 15x7s, cookies, fake BBS etc. let me know. cash only please ![]() (kidding of course) -Chris

Thanks for the offer Chris but I think I better buy one. The weather should be cooling off soon so I'll be taking my 911 more often to work. Driving up to Eureka in a couple of weeks, lots of road with no reliable cell phone service.

The search engine isn't as specific as we would often like. But not using just clogs the bbs up more with multiple threads on the same topic. That makes it hard to find new problems or new answers.

A 205 16" tire on a 6" rim will fit nicely in the luggage compartment. Even a 225x16 on a 7" rim will go in. Be careful using a 15" tire, if the others are 16". You can burn up your LSD (if you have one) if you run uneven tire diameters in the back!
So, I recommend you call parts heaven for a cheap phone dial or fuchs 16"x6" rim and have a local tire place slap a good used tire on it. Maybe parts heaven even has a rim with a good tire already installed. Hope this helps. I generally throw a real wheel / tire in there if I take longer trips. Don't forget to bring a decent jack and tire iron too. George |
