door locked but opens

Can someone shine a little light onto this problem?
The locking mechanism locks and you cannot open the door from the inside, but from the outside the door opens.
Have removed the panel and cannot see any issues.
An 88 carrera with power locks.

thanks

I would check the door lock mechanism. Maybe a piece is broken.
Here are 2 pics of my drivers doorlock hardware removed. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue on my 82 Targa. After studying how the latch mechanism works it became obvious what my problem was.

The striker on the spring loaded rod part was not hitting the trigger for the latch. I VERY carefully bent the stiker to line up with the trigger. Works like new again.

See ghnat 2nd pic. The spring loaded rod is on the right of the pic. In the car this is the top of the lock mechanism.

I had to remove the glass and glass rails to access the latch mechanism properly. This is an all afternoon job. Test that the latch works properly in the locked and unlocked positions.

Again - VERY CAREFULLY bend the striker.

Good luck.

Hey Charlie thanks for stopping in. This trigger you speak of seems to be too far from the rod but it also seems stuck should it be able to move?

Yes. Clean and grease all the moving parts.

Everything was in working order - just darn dirty!.
I still gotta find out what grease to use when I FINALLY get the car back together...

I have much bigger pics if you need. I can email them to you if you want.
