Fiber Glass Body Parts
My first post here at Pelican Parts. Great site, great people.
My 1969 911E has all the original body parts. The front fenders are rusting, as are the two doors. What experience have people had with fiber glass fenders and doors. Do they fit, or require hours of work to fit. Any recommended vendors? dom

I have had a lot of trouble with Peter aka Rennspd's parts - tho he seem like a nice guy, they are just poor quality. Do a search for GT, AIR, etc. There are several threads on this.

Welcome to the forum dom.
I have bought many parts from Peter at Rennspeed and the the quality was pretty good and I agree he is a pretty nice guy. I have bought different parts from him over a spread of years with no problems. Randy were all the parts poor quality or one part in particular?

Fiberglass doors require a LOT of work to fit properly to a street car. ( and we sell some of the best too!)
I am not just talking about gaps either. The material is not strong enough for daily use without the constant opening/closing of the doors and windows to take their toll. Replacement steel doors are plentiful on the secondhand market and this is what i would put on my stock street car. Fiberglass fenders: Though there are some very good ones available, unless you are looking to save weight for more performance, again the price difference between a nice set of oe steel and the 'glass units are not worth it. If restoring your car to original, then you lose resale value with the 'glass parts.

I just got some parts from Peter at Rennspeed and I was very happy with the quality. His prices are hard to beat as well. They need a little bit of massaging, but there is no such thing as fiberglass that fits out of the box. It all needs some work. That being said I am very satisfied.

both the engine lid and the rear bumper -- the latter was so bad the painter said send it back -- he put in about 8 hours on the engine lid.
now - let me point out that the painter is a perfectionist and this is a street car - if you just want an ugly race car you'd be ok... (but note how many fine looking race cars we see on this forum) also, this is current -- w/in the last month Peter is chepaer, but never again for me - it's been a nightmare.

Oh yeh -- if somebody was suitably motivated an Al door beam could be slavaged or fabricated... with proper safety engineering
Then an Al door skin could be placed on a steel frame -- or maybe an Al frame. Put it all together and you have saved a fair amt. of wt. for a huge amt. of trouble. But the second and third ones in a production run might make it worthwhile - the durn doors are monstrously heavy...

Thanks guys for the info. While I like the idea of weight savings, the GRP stuff will most likely be difficult to fit, and the cost savings would be eaten up in fitting (I would have someone else do the work for me).

I got all these parts from Buckler...Racers Group...but most of my stuff I get from John (Dan McGlaughlin is on to other things) at AIR..all these parts need some messaging..the car in the picture is Carbon everything..doors , deck lids, bumpers, fenders ..even grafted on the rear fenders. I have sold this car but found it to be durable and it held up just fine on the road.. and I cannot tell you how nice the weight savings was....

Getty Design has an excellent reputation for making parts that fit the first time--I know mine did (front IROC air dam, rear RS bumper) and fit perfectly. Many another maker, I'm told, uses the excuse that "Hey, they're just racecar parts, what are you worried about?" Beware.

He does not send parts, only at his home. Ask some Lola and endurance vintage drivers... ![]() |
