500 miles trip. A Carrera tribute.
I was scheduled for a convention for pediatricians caring for children with immunodeficiency disorders. A two days conference 250 miles away. Have never driven my Carrera that far so I was contemplating going in the Jeep. Early in the morning, about to leave home, beautiful whether - I decided to stop worrying and picked the Porsche instead.
The road was 90 % highway. No wind, sun rising, great scenery (sorry no pics) and absolutely no traffic at all. Just cruising along, windows down doing about 120 km/hr (65 miles/hr ?). Heaven on earth ! What a treat. The little car drove so well and the power band for acceleration at those speeds are just amazing. Going from 100 to 200 km/hr happens so swiftly an without drama its unbelievable. I went up to 225 km/hr and the car was totally stable - like a brick planted on the road - and the wheel was absolutely rock steady. I could steer it with the tip of my finger. And my car has no rear wing or front lip. Among the best driving experiences I have had. Period. And she was satisfied with 8.7 L/100 km ! Amazing. Oh, and yes I passed one vintage 911 that smiled and waved - and was overtaken by two 996 that did not even look my way. Big surprise ! ![]()
