Question Shop Price to engine drop and R/R oil leaks ?

I've got a severe oil drip after the oil t'stat opens up. Messy and smoky when hot from my headers.

What is a fair cost I should expect to pay to have a specialist Pcar shop drop the motor and do the typical oil tstat and sensor replacements?

Say 5 hours plus parts?

That would be a starting point. In fact that's just what JWE charged to do the same for my car. They found several other things that needed doing while the engine was out, and since I agreed to have them done, the bill ended up substantially higher. Which is good; at least I got everything done with only a single engine drop.

You might check your oil lines for leaks. You don't have to drop the engine if that is were your leak is coming from. If it is your oil thermostat gasket, there are ways to get to that without dropping the engine.

They can tell what you need before they drop it. To R&R an engine heres some recipes from when i was at the shop....

R&R : 6 hours plus oil
Rear mail engine out : 1hr plus $45 oring
Tower area reseal(termostat oring, crank case vent gasket, oil press idiot light) : 1.0 hr $65 parts
Oil cooler seals/test cooler:1.5 hours plus $25.00 seals
Main shaft seal : 1.0 hr plus $ 45 seals
VC gaskets : 1.0 hr plus $ 45 for the kit
Injection reaseal : 1.0 hrs Plus $90 boots and gaskets
Front pulley seal : 2.5 plus $60 seals and gaskets

Hope this helps. Find out their hourly rate...Make sure they call you before they do anything to it. Keep track and or write it down...

Good luck.. Hope this helps
