911 engine

hi.. i have a 1979 porsche 911 and my question is how can i tell what engine i have, theres no engine number or anything on the engine fan housing, thanks for the help guys.

The serial number should be on the rightside support for the fan housing. The engine type should also be on the case near the base of the support on the right side as well.

If you don't see any numbers in this location then the motor has a replacement case so no numbers will exist. So the only way to determine engine type is by documentation from the rebuild or by partial disassembly of the motor.
