Height of 3.2 engine, will it fit in my durango

I'm picking up a 3.2 engine and really dont want to bring my car trailer. The durango gets bad enough gas mileage as it is. You think I can put it in the back or will I have to take some pieces off. By measuring its looks like I have about 32inches through the threshold more once it gets in.
Anybody have some top to bottom measurements. It also has exhaust on it too.

bfrenz, I just had a 2.7 in my landrover just this past weekend. Stock CIS and muffler. Dimension wise with tin, heat exchangers and muffler your looking at width of 37 inches tin to tin plus this particular muffler pipe adds 8 inches, so really 45 inches wide. Depth is 37 inches and height is 28 inches. The tough part can be getting it in the car. I brought my collapsible engine hoist and was helped by the fact that my LR Discovery has a tall opening to accomodate the hoist boom. Even with 4-6 guys I don't think it would have been possible to load the engine because there just isn't room to manuever. The landrover door opens like a regular door and basically doesn't provide access to one side of the engine during loading. I don't know how the durango hatch works but if it folds down that would make it easier, but these engines are still heavy and they don't make cars the way they use to so I wouldn't want to put that much weight on a folded down tailgate. I'd go for the trailer. Mike

Just saw your picture, my height dimensions have the 2.7 cis/airbox 5 inches taller than the fan housing so it looks like they are close.

Mike,

Thanks for the response. Yea I was thinking about bringing my hoist. The Durango door is overhead which is no help. I'm thinking I might just rent a smaller trailer too. My current trailer is a 16footer dual axle. Not the most gas friendly ride.
The engine is about 2.5 hours away from me.

Borrow a friends pick up truck. That's what they bought them for.

I regret not buying another pick-up. I sold my trusty S-10 and bought the family sized Durango.

My 95 Jeep GC is probably smaller/shorter. Here's what I did using some 2x12x10s (braced in the middle iwth recycling containers) and a furniture dolly from Home Depot:

I don't really enjoy driving/parking trucks so I overdo the gifts after I borrow one.

Borrowed a cousins to move furniture - full tank, oil change, wash, and wax.

Borrowed another friends to move furniture again - full tank, changed 8 spark plugs, wash, and $50 worth of restraunt gift certificates.

These guys saved me hundreds of dollars.

I know gas is getting rediculous, but putting a 3.2 PORSCHE engine in a Durango is not going to save you any more gas.

Heh Heh Heh Heh

Just couldn't help myself.

rent a minivan. get all of the insurance. A standard engine hoist (which will also fit when disassembled) will clear the roof and boom straight into the back.
