Is is Indian or Guards? Why did the name change?
Thanks, |
84 thru 86 is actually India Red, paint code 027. 87 thru 89 is Indian Red paint code 80K. At least according to Tony Corlett's book. He doesn't come right out & say it, but implies it's the same color with a different name. No idea why the change.

The body shop and the paint store both tell me it's the same color. I have painted 2 cars Guards Red.
Porsche NA retroactively changed the name to Native American red for '87 to '89.
there was actually a color shift as well, in '87 (IIRC) for the 944 series - not sure if it was the same year for the 911 series - where the actual color went from a tomotoey hue to a redder hue. Same paint code. India and Guards were both supposedly the same color - the color worn by the British Guard in India, I'm told.
My '95 is officially India Red as well.
The move(change) came true after some people complained (believe it or not)about indian red being offensive to some people ?????,so in USA PCNA uses the Guards red denomination just to be politically correct.Dont you love it?
And I was kidding.
