964 VIN what can you tell me?
I'm investigating a 964 that my girlfriends dad is being offered for what seems to be a pretty decent deal. Info is a bit spotty at this point but I do have the VIN:
WP0AB2968NS420425 He was told it was a '92 C2 Anniversary model... but there is no such animal, correct? This VIN refers to a '93, yes? From what I could find on the 'net, there was a '93 30th Anniversary model but it was ROW only. Porsche VIN and 964 experts please feel free to jump in and tell me what you can. Thanks!

Are you sure you have the VIN correct?
WPOAB296CNS420001-0715 are regular US Carrera's of 715 were produced between Aug 1991 and July 1992. WPO = manufacturer code A = coupe B = USA/Canada 2 = ? 96 = 96 4 model C = ? N = 1992 (actually Aug 91 - Jul 92, the Porsche model year) S = Stuttgart (factory location) 42xxxx = serial number (4 is from 964) I don't know about Anniversary model or not. If you can find the option codes on the sticker underneath the front hood, you might learn more. Le Roux

Are the wheels Cup 93's or aftermarket? They do not look like the regular D90 or Cup2 wheels more usually fitted as standard:
Cup wheels: ![]() Design-90 wheels: ![]() Adrian Streather's book says the Anniversary model was only produced for ROW market in 1993, and is a widebody version. The car in your pics is a standard narrow-body. Did you find the option codes? A PPI and clean accident history are mandatory. I have no idea about the US market values. Le Roux

FWIW Carfax lists it as a 1992:
The story of this 1992 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA2/4 (WP0AB2968NS420425) according to our interpretation of the information reported to CARFAX: This coupe has had 2 owners and was owned in Illinois. The first title for this coupe was reported to CARFAX by an Illinois DMV in 1992. It has had no minor or moderate accidents reported to CARFAX. It has had no DMV-reported total loss events, like a major accident, fire or flood. It has not been reported by a DMV as having an Exceeds Mechanical Limits or Not Actual Mileage title. It has a consistent mileage history with no indication of an odometer rollback. The last odometer reading, reported on 08/10/1992, was 67 miles. It was not reported by a DMV as a Manufacturer Buyback (LEMON). It has no recalls that still require repair.

Thanks to all... especially Alan with the carfax report. Saved me $25!
I think the wheels on this car are the stock 16" rims. From what I've read '92 is the first year for these. I think in Le Roux's pics I see the D90 rims ('90-'91) and the optional 17" cup wheels ('92-'94). Wish me luck... I'm going into the breech.

What do you guys think?
Drive out there from Seattle (2200 miles one way) in my F150, rent a flatbed and haul it back? OR Fly out tomorrow morning via United ($252) and put 2200 more miles on this car on the way home?

I am so stoked!!!
I fly in tomorrow to Springfield, Ill., at 2pm local time and my girlfriend's dad takes me right to the small-town bank where the car is. Hang out with the semi-inlaws for a bit and then I'm on the road. My gal's dad and the bank manager are best buds and, well, what can I say other than it's not what you know it's who you know. Who needs an absolutely mint Iris blue '85 Targa with all new everything cosmetics, paint, glass, targa top, wheels, tires, RS America seats, 86k miles, etc. !!!! We're cutting deals!
