Knee Bar Wont Remove???Cant get ignition switch out.

Hey guys..
I got my new switch yesterday but, for some reason I cant get to the steering lock bolt and there are no clear external fasteners on the dash knee bar?
How the heck is it held on? are some different? hidden fasteners?

The pics in the bentley dont really look the same.. They show some vent that can be removed to access bolts but, my vents and lower dash dont look like that..?

I tried to push the lock out with out removing the steering lock but, it wont go far enough...

Fyi - The switch is unplugged -shear bolts removed all the ignition lock stuff is free to move (except the steering lock) and I could only get to one of the screws for the switch while still attached to the lock cyl.

There is one bolt that is right at the frickin edge of the knee bar. I bent mine slightly to get it out.

If you're going to track this car a lot, this might be a good time to drill out the steering interlock mechs; I did this on mine.

i never had to remove the knee pads. loosen the locknut on the allen setscrew and turn out the setscrew a couple of turns, but don't remove it completely. a long, ball end 4mm allen socket helps a lot.

I guess I pictured just reaching in with a soicket and it seems to not be possible to do that directly.. I had a 13mm on a long wobble extension and couldnt get at it.. The knee bar seemed like it would help if out of the way but I couldnt figure out how the thing was attached.. so I spent the rest of the time looking at that before I went inside and drank a scotch.
I might just try and silde a 1 deg ratcheting wrench in there to loosen it then the allen wrench shouldnt be to hard to get in there..worst case aI have a spare set that I have a few cut down on the short end or modified other ways depending on what works.

an open end 13mm is all you need. you just need to loosen it.

Hmmm, after reading this post, I thought you had the new switch to install...The knee pad is held on by two nuts up, behind the bar. One is to your extreme left. Feel around for them, you find em. The lock mechanism is removed just as John describes. You dont have to remove the knee bar, but it makes the job easier.
Best of luck to you...
