Early 911 Rear Seat Retaining Strap

My 1969 911 is missing the rear leather seat straps that keep the seats upright. I bought two replacements, but can anyone tell me how they were originally installed? I know they go under the carpet on the back of the seats. How are they held in place? It would seem brads would eventually pull loose. I have the snaps already in place on the back shelf. Are there snaps on the back of the seats to stow the straps when the seats are down? Maybe a picture anyone? Thanks!!

Garage
My 67's were held on with two nails and glue, the strap went between the carpet and the seat back.

They screw into the back of the rear seat with a finishing washer. The strap is under the carpet but the screw goes from the outside of the carpet. I used black trim screws and you can hardly see them against the charcoal carpet. They should fit pretty tight when you snap them to the back trim piece.

Ok, I pulled the carpet back to expose the wood and found two small holes. I guess these are where the screws went. The carpet is new red German weave with no holes. I plan on glueing the strap in place under the carpet and using a chrome screw and finishing washer through the carpet and strap in the top hole. My Question: Is there a snap/screw in the lower hole on the back of the seat, so when the seats are down, the strap can be snapped down and stowed? -or- Is another finishing washer/screw used in the lower hole and the strap just flops around when not in use? I want to keep this as authentic as possible. Thanks!

I left mine loose. But you could use a snap, the type with a scew in the middle intead of the finishing screw. I don't remember if originally they had a snap. I do not think so but I could be wrong. I am sure they did not have a screw and snap because when I took the old carpet off i only had to remove one screw. Just can't remember if it was a snap screw or not. It's hell getting old.

I just checked mine and it does snap to the seat when it is folded in the down position.

Want a picture?

Thanks. If you lift up the strap. Is there a finishing washer and screw showing at the top of the seat back where the strap goes under the carpet?

No, if you lift up the strap, all you see is carpet, strap is tucked between back side of seat & carpeting, I would have guessed it was sewn at the factory, not screwed, but then it would have pulled out about 30 years ago. One of the reasons I never replaced. Seat backs are cheap as dirt at swaps, probably because they all lack an intact strap. good luck

Thanks. I think I'll go with glueing the strap, tacking with brads, then using a washer and screw at the top of the strap, all under the carpet. After reinstalling the carpet, I'll screw a snap in place a few inches down on top edge of the carpet. Thanks for all the responses. If any one wonders, I got replacement straps at Autos International. http://www.autosintl.com/ $18 a pair. I didn't find any a Pelicanparts.

Pelican has the straps but they are listed in the 74 up model years section of their catalog. I found them by using the search function.
