short translation
it's 28 years ago that the belgian police bought 30 911 targas, they are all gone except for one that has just been restored...

the stock 911 targa was equipped with a 210 HP carrera RS engine, they were discontinued after 9 years service
this one has been fully restored by a porsche specialist, all the extra police options where kept during the restoration

the other blablabla is just fancy talk , not really that interesting, can't be bothered writing all that down

any mention of why they used the targa, like so the 2nd cop can stand up and wave or something?

I've seen some pictures of the policemen standing up through the targa top to direct traffic. I think that's why they ordered the Targas. I didn't know they put the RS engine in them. That would be an incredible collectible car to have...a factory RS-powered Targa. What happened to the other 29 cars? Is the restored one the only one left?

the commentator suggests only one remains, he didn't hint where the others went... possibly they were restored as civilian cars, i'm sure a couple of em went up in flames and another bunch were wrapped around a tree... i'm belgian and i've seen news reports of different kinds of untimely demises ...

I sent this today to my friend that is a Police Superintendent in Belgium. He said the Targas were run by the "Federal Police" on the highways.

Claims they kept them a lot of years and then replaced them with Volvo's. The old ones got auctioned off some time ago.....

in those days it wasn't police yet, not technically
it was the "rijkswacht" or "gendarmerie"

Belgium is billingual , so everything has dual names

technically , they were part of the military , although not military police, those were others.. confusing eh... that's Belgium for ya
they had ranks like colonel , captain , etc etc

they were mostlly responsible for highways, riot control(footy hooligans and demonstrations), cross country anti drug , and bigger crimes such as armed robbery and terrorisme.
they had subsections like "groupe Diane" and SIE
(SWAT ...you don't want them on your doorstep... it basically means you're fecked) and also B.O.B. , or plain clothes men

at some point they became federal police, and later (5-6 years ago )on they merged local police with federal police, not without some issues about who had what rank and pay grade difference

where's your friend based?

Stijn: Thax for the lesson, that's about how he explained it to me. When I was there 2 yrs ago, the Federal Police were driving big trucks with water cannons down the motorway. Asked where they were going, he told me to a company that was on strike was having trouble with the pickets.. The water would be used to hose them down!!!!!!! (I was near Rotterdam on that trip, but blew on thru to see a friend in "The Hague" (I know, you say it differently).....Anyhow, his daughter is engaged to a young man named: Stijn - small world....

My friend was the Police Chief in Remist and they combined the police of the cities Bilzen, Remist and Hoesit....He's now a Superintendent I believe. They like high performance police vehicles. He just emailed me photos of his Departments new Yamaha FJR1300 m/c's.....

When I was an MP stationed in Germany in the mid 1980s, we did ride-along patrols with the German Police in their 911s. A couple of interesting accessories:
In place of the door pockets were locking boxes containing an HK MP5 submachine gun.
In the front windshields were two rubber grommets, about 2" across, just to the side of the drivers and passengers front view. There were thin cuts in the material, just enough to push the barrel of a weapon out. This way you had full visibility if you needed to fire, without hanging out the window.
Maybe it was because I was young, but I remember these things were fast!!! And, it ignited my interest in having one for myself.

I love the looks of a German Police Targa, the Green with the white doors. Was looking for a photo on the internet the other day and didn't find one. Anyone have one handy to post?

actually , us Belgians ,held the line in West Flanders during WW1
(along with the allied powers)
i was brought up in Ypres, still can't dig a decent hole in the ground there without calling the bombsquad because of all the shells still laying all over the place...

the house where i grew up is behind the tall tower.. or what's left of it in that picture

and in WW2 we managed to delay the Jerry's the Blitzkrieg during several tactical battles(Dender 18 may,Zwijndrecht 19 may, Schelde 20 may an the Leie ) giving the English precious time to evacuate at Dunkerk and also via Oostende,Nieuwpoort and ZeeBrugge...

Belgium only capitulated AFTER the Brittish got out

My brother lives in Mon's , has lived there for years but he drives BMW's and now has added a Volvo S series, bummer....

I get over there every chance I get but still have not converted him to the idea of a P car.
