My Longhood broke down....clutch linkage???

Hi all,

Well it is a beautiful 75 degree day on the coast here in San Diego....Woke up.....Had my car detailed, and decided to take her for a drive ;-)

Well, I gunned her (not to hard ;-), and all of a sudden the clutch pedal is all the way at the bottom.....Had her towed.....

About 3 months ago, my throttle pedal did the same thing, and it turned out that the loopy, linkage bit snapped...I'm looking at the Haynes manual and it seems this same part is used for clutch-linkage...I guess it stands to reason that this one snapped as well, right?

Being as she is a '68 and the parts are wearing equally?

Anyway, I'm hoping that it is nothing more serious than that, since I just sunk 15K into my car...

Check your clutch cable, it might have gotten loose and fell off.

I was gonna say, check the adjustment. I've had clutch woes in my '70... except it started with the throwout bearing ripping out of the pressure plate. hehehe...

I'll just say... I think that not having a floorboard with a clutch stop in there was a BAD thing...

It was an old clutch, and was near wearing out anyway. Got a floorboard in there, got the clutch stop in, and after a few hiccups, it works OK. Been a few months since I've driven the car, though. (she's a project, and she's in ROUGH shape... major work starts on her in a couple months)

You asked for it...

In a couple months, the front end will be 'refurbished'. New suspension pan and gas tank support, fix up the bumper, likely I'll also get the correct passenger side fender. The gas tank will be flushed and sealed, and I'll have the underside coated (probably LineX if I can). While it's apart, the suspension will get a refurb. New ball joints and bushings. I'll probably also get new rotors for the front brakes, which have been rebuilt with new pads.

the parentheses in the file name throws of the HTML, best to rename the file something without parentheses and try it again. You can cut/paste the name into the browser and it works fine though. It's a good looking car, just needs some new horn grilles or through-the-grille fogs

The link works if you cut and paste it... I think it just doesn't like the (). I don't have the picture where I am (at work), the link points to the picture on my web server at home.

No problem! I work in Rockville.......graduated from QOHS. Let me know if you ever come back to visit your old 'hood.

Regarding your clutch cable, you might want to inspect your horseshoe spring, the arm, and all other springs and hardware that connect to the clutch cable under the car. If the horseshoe spring is bent, it will make the clutch pedal feel akward (too stiff). Good luck.
