German Plates

Went to the German fest over the weekend, and i purchased a pair of German licence plates. I bought them to add to the plates I have hanging in the garage from previous cars we owned over the past. My question is, is it ok to place one of these plates on the front of my P car ? The car has lived its life here in the states, put I think it would look great to have one on the front of the car. Can I legally do this ? Is there a bad omen with placing these types of plates on a car ? Why shouldnt I do this.

Plus, could somebody give me any type of info of the plate number ? Its SFA - S 199.

Thanks. I know this isnt a tech question, so if it needs to be moved to OT, then thats fine.

The answer to your question lies within your states law.

Check your secretery of state.GOV site for more info.

I just a 78SC and it qualifies as a Antique Vehicle in Illinois. I asked my neighbor who is a state policeman and he thinks with an AV plate, the front can be used for "fun plate."

So I plan to order one of the new Euro types for fun.

Hope that helps.

Let me add to this thread.....

Can any Pelicaner reccommend the best place to get vanity front "German Type" plates?

Best places online -- places to stay away from etc?

I'm thinking something that matches the new Euro style with.

911pilot,

The first letters of the license plate denotes the city where the car is registered. B stands for Berlin, M for Munich and so on. Gets a bit differenet in parts of the country. One would think that H would stand for Hamburg but its actually Hannover. HH is Hamburg as its part of the old republic and it stands for HansaStadt Hamburg...

Too much history... SFA stands for Soltau-Fallingbostel (Fallingbostel) which is a small town halfway between Hamburg and Hannover in Northern Germany.

www.customeuropeanplates.com They have a "visualizer" so you can see what your plate will look like.

Joeaksa - so what would a plate from Stuttgart be? ST or S?

Wondering what might be the more authentic. Thanks to all...

I've been running one on the front of my 70 911T for 13 years now in Houston. Never been stopped (knock on wood), probably 100K miles plus. S is for Stuttgart. Factory cars normally then have a PR followed by a 3-4 digit number.

You need to make a mount with two pieces of strap steel or buy one from one of the websites above who sell the plates.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered a set of oval German plates from licenseplates.tv for my 356 cab. Not 911 I know but I've been looking for these for ages.

In CA it's against the law but It's never been a problem. A cop could make it an issue/ticket if he wanted.

I got mine on Ebay, it's my wife's initials & birthday. I never forget her birthday and she never argues about expense.

Oh, she's got a birthday this month.

German License Plates $32.95

Here's a link to a company that makes german license plates. They cost $32.95 and can be customized too. I saw a nice GTI with a german plate mounted on the front and asked owner where he bought it.

http://www.shgraphics.com/

I bought one for my Euro SC. I orderd the same tag that it had when it was registered in Germany.

I'm wondering if this would be close to an authentic for a Stuttgart factory plate?

Is spacing, place for seals correct etc?

Was taken from: http://www.licenseplates.tv/product_info.php/cPath/2_234/products_id/2055#lpgen

Thanks!

In Connecticut it is not legal, but the previuos owner said he never was stopped. I like the look and will keep the plate on until told otherwise.
