Front end Squeak
Hello,
My '79 sc has recently developed a strange sound. When turning to the right, under modest to high loads and regardless of turn radius, the front end lets out a squeak that is probably best described as rubberry. The squeek occurs as soon as the steering wheel is turned and continues throughout the turn while the wheel is held steady. This does occur on left hand corners although not to as great an extent. The feeling is that the sound is quite correlated with the turning of the steering wheel and I would have isolated the problem to that area; however, as I mentioned the sound continues throughout a corner with the wheel steady so the problem may be elsewhere. If anyone has ever had a similar issue please let me know so that I have some guidance before I dive into the trial and error routine. Also, the wheels do not rub they are 16x7" Fuchs, the front end has 22mm torsion bars, a 22mm Weltmeister sway-bar, Elephant racing bushings and Weltmeister Camber plates. Thanks, Aram |
You might have a look at the sway bar bushings and A arm bushings. You should be able to make the sway bar bushing squeak while the car is stopped by pushing down on the bumper like you're checking shocks for rebound.

mac9, I have the same car and recently have experienced the same problem. After the car warms up I get a sort of howling squeek while turning the wheel to the right.
If you find the problem please let us know. Thanks! |
It most likely it's bushings.

I'd adjust/replace/repack the front wheel bearings, especially the driver side. Your bearings see lateral loads throughout the turn and may be letting out some noise.
