Just got back from my first ever trip to the Nurburgring. I am still speechless from the experiance. Hopefully I can express how good it was via the medium of picture.

Enjoy....

Just saw the Top Gear show about the Ring and I have to get there oneday. Would be nice to take my DP 935 and drive it on the track but don't think that will happen.

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like it was alot of fun.

I believe the host on Top Gear said it was 14 Euros.

I have about 5GB of pics from my recent Central/Eastern Europe road trip, which of course included a stop at the 'ring. Definitely some impressive machinery there (mine excluded) and I'll try to post some pics once I've gone through them.

I would guess that let the ATV on, only because as I was leaving, a full size tour bus was making its way onto the track! That plus the fact they let me run my Ford Puma with 3 up and completely full of luggage. If you manage to get the ticket into the machine, it seems basically anything is fair game!

Definitely a different mindset and a less litigious society than what most of us are used to.

Theres a good article in 911 porsche world where a guy takes his 3.2 Carrera from the UK thorugh the channel tunnel and to the Ring for the day! does 6 or 7 laps and gets home in the UK at 2am!!- fun day at the track! He drove through 3 countries to get there!.
Seems amazing they let anything on there as it is a toll road. But if you have a crash I believe not only do you have your own dilemna of expenses- crash/tow/repair etc, but you have to pay for the repair to the track/barriers!!!! rubbing salt into wounds Ouch!

I definately WILL be taking the targa there- but may take it on the flatbed trailer incase of accidents!!
What a blast!
Imagine taking an apex at high speed to find a tour buss full of tourists in the way!!!!
crazy!

As someone who'd love to get on the track, can you elaborate on the system there? Is it like, put $100 worth of quarters in a machine for one lap?

Not that expensive...but a machine is there. Or pay cash/credit card in the office and they give you a ticket. 15 euros for a single lap. 12 laps is 155 euros. I bought 6 laps for 80 euros. There is a barrier at the start into which you feed your ticket. It deducts a lap, gives it back and opens to let you out. On the last lap it keeps your ticket. Tickets for 6 or more laps can be used whenever the track is open. 5 day tickets (60euro) only valid for day of purchase. Ticket is for the ticket holder, not the car, so you can use it on different cars. You can also buy tickets at the local petrol station

Here ya go: The Karussell
On the same lap, trying to keep with a Lotus: Lotus chasing

For those wondering - 10mins 02 secs, timed from 'Bridge to gantry' I've got the whole lap but it's 102mb. Any suggestions as to how to get it 'on the net' ...?

I went about 20secs faster on my own later but don't have evidence - apart from this clip of me getting just a little to much inside keb:
Oops!

Man, what a day

I think the 'Ring was actually built as the German eqiuvalent of a WPA project. Imagine that. We built dams and murals (worthy endeavors, yes), and the Germans went and built the greatest racetrack in the world.

I also believe you can buy a year-long pass (similar to a season pass at a ski resort). The price I read was either in Marks or Euros and I remember trying to figure out the conversion into US $. It worked out to something like $800 or $900. Maybe my math was wrong, as it seemed way too cheap from a car junkie's perspective.
