Remaking a 911R/RSR fuel tank

I am building a 911R type car and wanted a fuel tank that looked like the original but costs, oh about... $2500 less. So I started with the stock tank and I am going to mate it with the top of an old beetle tank. The center filler with 100mm cap will follow suit soon. Still lots of fabrication left to do but you get the idea...

I was amazed how much junk can accumulate in the gas tanks. This old tank was taken out of a running car 6 months ago! All parts will be sand blasted prior to welding.

Yep, still gonna happen but it got put on the back burner while the car was being painted. Hopefully I will have some updates in the next few weeks.

baffles in later tanks - I think

coat it after sandblasting and don't blow yourself up welding on it!

thx for the interesting pics

Nice project

Take a look at a similar conversion here: www.albertweb.de

Select Projecte (projects) from the top menu, then click on "Neuaufbau Albert RSR Rennwagen" and scroll all the way down. They have added some nice baffles inside.
