Webers with spacers - Too Cold?

I've been running my 71 911E lately in the warmer weather (it was over 80 today) and after my 10 mile drive to work I can touch the carbs and they are still cold. I installed a set of PMO "plastic" spacers/insulators as a preventive measure to keep them from getting too hot in the summer. It takes some spirited driving to get the motor to warm up. Are they running too cold? Would removing the spacers make them warm-up quicker?

The carbs should remain cool while the engine is running. Lots of fuel evaporating (and subsequent cooling effect) within them and lots of fresh airflow.
Ultimately, if the carbs are warm/hot, the airflow within is less dense. This isn't good for power or for consistent air/fuel mixture.

cold carbs

When my kids were racing karts running on Methanol we would get ice buildup on the carb. 4 cycle Briggs with "stock" carbs with sometimes 3/16 solid ice. If you are burning an Ethanol blend gas you may see ice if you look quick enough after shutting the engine off. Very dense fuel charge is good for performance.

I think I need to Sync the Carbs. The motor does pop and hiss a bit. I'll post an update after I smooth them out. Now back to that throttle cable issue and clutch adjustment.....Ahh the joys of owning and rebuilding old Porsches...

From what I understand the spacers are to insulate the carbs from engine heat after the engine is shut down. The fuel boils out of the float chamber and into the intakes when the carbs heat up, making for hard starts.
