door opening mechanism
I just finished my 911 and the only thing I can not figure out is why the pass. side door won't opent from the outside handle the inside works fine but I think I might be missing something because the handle pushes in the plate but it won't open.
Anybody have a diagram on how this is supposed to work? Help Fred ![]() |

Beautiful car!! I don't have a diagram, but if you have done any DIY work, it's a pretty easy job to take the door panel off to access the handle & opening mechanism. You can probably take it out & see what's wrong with it. Also a good chance to look at and lube the rest.
Good luck.

Fred,
See the red arrow below... ![]() The door handle (outside) should press this lever. Now look at pic #2 in my original post. that lever is bottom right, held out by the spring. there is a little bar attached to lever. When pressed the little bar should move the big bar (located in the middle of pic #2). Is this helpful or are you confused???

and note the little cap that comes off and lets the spring fly off into the bottom of the door... search up the threads on this & inspect/fix if you have it apart

i know what it is. you can search my thread from the past.
but here is the short version. look at the second photo from ghant. the one with the lock laying flat facing up. see the spring running up and down on the right? it forces that tab poking out to the left out of the way at the right time. i bet $$ that the circlip that puts more and less tension on that spring slipped and took tension out. i dont think you can adjust it in the car, but taking it out is easy.

the plate that pushes the opening mechanism was bent out and all I had to do was to bend it back in shape. But I couldn't tell because I didn't know how it worked
