Oil Traces in Airbox

Am having an issue with rough running and was inspecting the airbox for cracks, etc. , see post:

Stalling - Sputtering Problems while driving

Noticed a small amount of oil residue in the corners of the airbox and around the oil vent hose on the right side.

My oil is at correct level when checked at operating temp w/ engine running. (I may be checking it at around 200 degrees or so)

Are there any guidelines for oil in the airbox? It doesn't sound good to me and was wondering if even a small amount can make a car run rough. Also, I have noticed a faint smell of gas in the cabin after hard/fast right hand corners.

It's been parked until I can figure it out or drop off at Stuttgart Autotech in a week.

Ken,

Not unusual but if you find much then its a good chance that the oil tank has been filled too full with oil.

I would take some spray brake cleaner and clean out the airbox then drive it for a while and see if it comes back. You may see some residue there from the vent hose.

About the fuel smell, let the car idle and look at the fuel lines and such closely.

It's normal to have an oil film residue inside the filter housing, but if you have puddles you have a problem.

Check your vent and fill hoses on top of your gas tank, they may be hard or cracked and not sealing as well as they should.
