That car must be the absolute balls to drive. I never have quite been able to reconcile myself to the look of the 916 flares. They seem (to my eye) to ruin the clean slim looks of the car, but I guess they're necessary if you want bigger shoes.

Great project!

sweet car !

small question , i've never actually seen a teener up close
so bit curious about how the engine bay works with a flat six

from your pic , the fan seems very close to the firewall?
or is there some ducting in that firewall for sucking air??

that grill above the engine , i know 911's don't care much about rain with their grill , but the teeners grill is bigger , and flatter

still no problems with rain coming in , or are you in a very dry area? i am keeping the 914 in mind for in a year or so , when i'm done with the 911, would want to replace my 924 with something aircooled for daily use... and it does rain a lot here.

914's have a drip tray under the grill that ducts to the bottom of the engine bat Stjin. The engine bay breathes arund the edges.

svandamme:

The fan location is normal....just look at factory 914/6's and also 908's and such. Hard to change the fan belt too, I'm sure. Hmm....just drop the motor...

Sweet ride...just lose those front bumper pads......

Only 4 cylinder 914's were equipped with a drip tray. On the six, there is no room between the top of the air cleaner and the engine lid (see my avatar).

Great car Don!!!

Actually the STOCK 914/6 had the double air cleaner like early 911s that covered BOTH carbs. Typically hot rodrodders will remove that and use the single "watershield" covers.....frees up more room and gives the engine bay a cleaner look.

I agree. The best example is Dave's car from TRE. John Kelly also does "stretched" and flared fenders. Look for their cars at TREcup and John Kelly (user names) respectively.

Looks like a fun car.

914-6's with big flat sixes are a bunch of fun to drive

FWIW, my 3.2 914-6 conversion is in the shop for paint. Plan to run 10.5's in the front and 12's in the rear. Could go with 12's in the front and 15's in the rear, but rims and tires are silly money.

Very nice car, Doc. My only question would be why keep the 901, but I suppose it'll be adequate with a stock 3.2 so long as the owner stays away from smoky burnouts.

914-6 hybrids are all the rage and that one is a beaut! We have three variations on the same theme around here. All black, with GT flairs, running 7s & 8s. One has a “built 3.2, Wevo modified 915, the other a converted 914-4 with a full 6 suspension and 3.0 with carbs. The third runs a 2.7 near RS spec engine. Unlike Jim R’s MFI RS motor it has carbs. Needless to say all have impressive performance limited only by the amount of tyre they can fit under the GT flairs. Now if the conversion price just came down a little…

Have seen several 914-6's at Patrick here in Phoenix. When I win the lotto know what one of the first purchases will be!

Very nice looking car!

Thanks guys!
It really is fun to drive. You can drive it easy or you can kick it and then it flies.
I am very lucky to have a job that I get to do something I love to do.
I don't get to keep them. But I love building them.
I have mine, the one I'm gonna keep started now but it will be awhile till its done. Its a 71 914-6 # 430 it's gonna get all the cool stuff.

svandamme: We have already started making a black aluminum
rain shield that will wrap around the top side that mounts with the clamp that holds on the filter.
On a 914 that area is under the top somewhat and the air tumbles from the top and makes a low pressure area.

84Cab & catca: I am gonna drive for a few weeks to make sure there are no bugs. Then it will be for sale.
I not shure how much $$$ yet.

greglepore: For a 3.2 street car the 901 dose fine.
Yea! side stepping the clutch is a NO NO! Burn outs are OK though! All you have to do is put in 1st and punch it.
Its got a ton of torque Man!

David: Sounds like your as crazy as I am!

SeeYa!
