Try again, new paint job

1977 Carrera 3.0

Before:

After:

Car is running great right now.

Thanks to all that have helped, Chris especially the Super 5, Chris B., Janus, Andrew (Ferarriaguy); Shaun (G9) and Phil (SafeCracker).

Next stop, interior in the winter. Strip out carpet and rear seats, paint black, make some door panals that will accomodate window straps instead of regulators and redo front suspension (a bit tired).

If I happened to find a little bit of money, roll cage and new seats.

Take care, I am so glad this part is over.

David

Oh, thanks for all the kind words with my other post. Funny I screwed that up. I guess it wouldn't be me if I didn't.

Oh, the main problem with the car running crappy before was the plug wires which were new. I cut an inch off each wire, rescrewed in and the car ran great. It then started just turning off after 20 mins of running. My neighbor had a spare CDI floating around, got rid of Permatune (I know Chris) and has run great since.

Oh, I should say an extra thanks to Shaun (G9), he donated a lot of free, expensive stuff. Thanks, I owe ya.

Wow. With the color, script and duck, it has the backdated look even with the impact bumbers. Very nice.

Thanks,

I originally thought I would get rid of the impact bumpers but the accordian look grew on me. I'd like to think of it mid year with a retro attitude, I just need to lighten up a bit more.

Great JOB! I'm glad you perservered! You are an example - congratulations!! The car looks SWEET!

I hunted for a long time for used parts to save $$$. Budget is an issue for most of us, keep a list of items (maybe a wish list) that you'd like to buy and continue to look for them through the classifieds, including your local PCA. I found some nice race seats for 1/2 price (save about 50lbs and $600 - $700) - that was money well spent.
Good luck!

Doug

How much does a respray usually cost?? I am thinking about respraying my car (still with original color) and want something a little nicer than Earl Scheib but not a $8000 hand rubbed job either.

Very nice indeed. Removal of the center rear reflector would definitely give it attitude.

Nice!

What does it say on the blacktop.... "Go Get..."

From the wife "an suv that runs, and stop wasting your time on this old car!"?

Sorry, but I like the "before" look much better. I am biased, however.

That's a good one. It was my daughter's first day at school so I wrote "go get them". It was early in the AM and dark so I probably could have been more creative.

Zoanas, I liked the old look as well, I just thought I would do something a bit louder for fun.

Different strokes for different folks right.

Not my garden. I assume you are talking about the first picture. My neighbors, I let him know. He's a landscaper. My place is a bit more kid friendly.

Nothing special about the tail. I traded my old tail with a guy from Carver, MA. After the trade he decided he wanted to have a duck as well so he decided to keep his. He then bought this from some guy in Oregon to keep his end of the deal. Nice guy.

I had to shape the side edges closest to the rear to fit. It is probably not perfect but I am not anal or wise enough to know. I am very pleased with it.

Wow, both before and after look great. But the blue (with the ducktail and script) has got that...well...attitude.

David, the car looked great at Larz Anderson Saturday!

I admire your spirit, jumping into the deep end with the bodywork and paint would have given me pause. I admit that there were times when you were in the middle of this, and posting questions, that I thought you were nuts. That said, you did an amazing job and the car looks beautiful. I think that the black trim makes the blue pop even more than it would on a bright trimmed car.
