*&^%$ Fuel leak

Hey Guys-my '78sc is leaking fuel from right under the fuel tank it looks like. I am guessing that the fuel line runs out of the tank somewhere near the back bottom of the tank. Any ideas what might be leaking and can I get at it without pulling the tank (which thankfully is quite low right now). Jim

Might be leaking at the fuel pump? Jump the leads so the pump runs constantly and with the cover off the bottom you should find the leak.

Put it up on a lift, if possible. The fuel lines exit the tank at the bottom rear center of tank. Should be able to see your leak without difficulty from underneath.

Either the fuel pump fittings, the actual pump, the rubber hose from tank to pump, or the rubber hose from the pump to the line through the tunnel. Get up on jack stands, take off the skid plate and start the car, you will quickly know if it is going to be easy or hard. I hope your tank is near empty if not, you will have to syphon out gas.

Thanks guys-leaks even when sitting, so I am guessing that one of those lines is split. Fortunately tank is way down on fuel.

You should be able to get to the fuel lines from under the car and through the smuggler's box, at least I could on my '74.

My tank was leaking from the supply to the fuel pump. See pictures. I oxy welded the leak.

If you need a stock tank, and don't need a gas guage, I have a recently pulled tank from an '80 SC with no leaks.

It has a dent in the top that does not allow the sending unit to go all the way in correctly, so no guage. Not a big problem for a pure track car. YOu may be able to pop it out somehow if you are creative. I replaced mine.

If you are interested, it is yours for the shipping and packaging costs. I live in Washington State. I can send a pic of the dent if you want.

Gary
