The intake manifold must be a modified Carrera unit, from that era. Everything was based on the Carrera, even the Motronic engine management system. Ruf just modified it for pressure sensing and ran their own code

Thanks, but I've been having dreams about Yellowbird for two days now...

It is the ultimate 80's-era Porsche. Blazing speed, reliability, and the hands-on driving experience (no power steering, ABS, etc...) - the perfect car.

In your dreams, do you slide the Yelowbird sideways thru the corners of the Ring like in that RUF video? If so, our dreams are alike, scary, isn't it

Yes. I only dream I could drive a 911 like that...

LOL I'm too chicken to drive the yellowbird like that in my dreams, much less in reality.
Prolly has something to do with my skill level or lack of, huh?

There's a couple of people on this board with Yellowbirds. Jens (see 4 posts above this) with his Yellowbird engined car (bluebird??) and a guy called Adam (I think). Pretty sure that's him in the video posted earlier featuring the 996 RUF too.

10 years after this thread, Ruf just released the full 19 minute version of the iconic sideways lap of the Yellowbird around the Nurburgring.

I went back and found my photos from that day in Ventura when the Yellowbird was visiting the US. Hard to believe - both the video and the fact it has been 10 years. My photos and some thoughts here:

Wow, way to revive a thread!

A lot has changed in a decade... I'm now a professional automotive journalist, Editor-in-Chief of Autobytel!

And, I'm currently in the Canary Islands driving the new '16 Porsche 911 Carrera models with the new turbocharged engines (I fly back to LA on Wednesday).

I love that the OP responded immediately to the 10 year bump. I love this place sometimes.

I used to hang out here daily. While I still have my 930, I miss the camaraderie of this forum. I think it's time to get more involved.

By the way, I am in Tenerife with Pete Stout, Editor-in-Chief of Panorama. He was fortunate enough to have Yellowbird in his garage for a month a decade ago!
