It takes exactly 330 days. That's how long I have owned mine and I know everything there is to know about how it handles and works.;)

edit-oops. forgot picture which I think sums up 911 handling mistakes nicely.

911s demand respect. Period.
You will not learn how to drive a 911 to the limit on the road if you are at all normal. Definately do a DE. I went a different route though. Unused parking lot. Took corners in the stupidest ways so that I would learn what to do. Spun it a couple of times, got some awesome powerslides others.
Also, once the road is wet all bets are off. I remember one time I was going to make a left turn at an intersection during a moderate rain. I yield to let some honda woman going the opposing direction turn ahead of me. She instead wants me to go. You have the right of way B*&#H!. I try to wave her by but she is one relentless waiter. So I finally give up, gun it and believe it or not start to fishtail wildly. So what do you do in a 911 to stop a fishtail? Get on the loud pedal! So I proceded to do so and I didnt stop fishtailing until top end of 2nd (thats like 60 right?). This was on a 30 mph road. Needless to say that has to be the scariest thing possible to watch from the honda woman's perspective.
Moral of the story: 911s are fun :D
But seriously be careful out there guys, especially if you dont have any DE experience or it is raining.

These cars are almost all "feel". For instance, being able to intelligently discuss the attributes of tires from different manufacturers and feeling the difference when tires are starting to wear.

KNowing the differences in brake pad compounds and how they react when they get hot, noticing a slight miss at idle, noticing the difference between using 87 vs 91 octane gas, knowing when to tighten up your fan belt because you can hear it. etc, etc....

During my 22 years of driving a variety of cars I have never even been close to having an accident. According to my brother its because I drive like a pu##y.

I have had my Porsche for almost a year now and I drive it the same way I have always driven. I know I donīt take advantage of my cars full potential and, again, my brother questions why I got a Porsche in the first place - might as well have picked up a Volvo.

My point is, I have never driven a car that gives back such immense amount of feeling and joy EVEN when driven at moderate speeds. It does not have to be driven like a maniac to be rewarding.

I did not get a Porsche to drive faster - I got it cause no other car gives so much pleasure at what ever speed I choose (even when driving as a p...)

Well said, Markus, and my feelings too. I don't drive especially fast and never have. I own and appreciate Porsche for the incomparable sensation of being "on" the road, for the integrity of the total experience of the car. I sensed this as a kid in my father's 911S, and knew then that this was the only car for me.
