Are 915 and 930 shifter the same?

Can I swap a 930 shifter (including the shift tower and whole shabang) with my 915 shifter?

If you are going to a 930 4 speed from a 5 speed...... you bet. Everything bolts right in.

The internal guts of the shifter are different as is the shift rod.

No.

930 shifter is longer and 930 gearbox need much longer movement of shifter rod. Only thing that's similar is shifter housing.

You can do such swap only if you plan to replace 930 box with 915 (in case you fancy rebuildning transmissions or want that wonderful crunch sound on 1:st)

1) Why?

2) You can use the 930 housing, but you must fit a 915 shifter - good idea to use the factory short shift.

yes if you are changing to a 930 4 speed from a 915 5 speed. As stated but they are diferent and with out changing the trans the answer is no. if you change the trans then the shift rod is the same and works fine as well as the clutch cable length.

Does anybody knows that when you come to a stop and are in neutral, a quick movement of the shifter into second and then into first won't cause the aforementioned? Try it, it works. It has worked for me.

Cheers,
Ricky

I do that second great touch on all stickshift cars and never a crunch in 1st. It is yet another reason why some people can get a 915 to last and some can't.

Just to reinforce why you can't use the turbo shifter, here is a pic of various shift levers. The turbo lever is at the bottom. Different geometry.

The short shifters work by increasing the distance between the ball end and the pivot hole, but with a resultant loss of leverage. If you could get the turbo shift lever to work on your 915, you'd have the ultimate short shift - maybe 1/2" between throws, but with a huge increase in shifting effort.
