Magnesium Engine Cases

What has been the experience for Pelican Board owners of 1974 911's without the Thermal Reactors? What problems/concerns if any?

74 should have the 11-blade fan and early-style heat exchangers stock. These engines, are IMHO more durable than their later 2.7L counterparts. However, I really only have first experience w/ my own personal motor, but my headstuds were solid like a rock at 86k miles when I fixed some broken pistons. The 74 CIS is simpler compared to the later models, and reliable when properly adjusted. The mag case shouldn't be a problem for a mild motor when properly built, or that has been properly treated during it's lifetime.

Oil cooling is very important for engine longevity, and an external cooler is very important, as is getting a high-ratio fan set-up (1.82:1). Keep the temps down and it'll help save studs from pulling out, as well as keep the mating surfaces of the engine truer after many heat cycles. 911 and 911S models lacked an external cooler stock (Carrera models may have lacked this too, excepting Euro Carrera/ MFI model which had it) and one should be added.
