I'm surprised no one's commented on a Targa rear window install. Looks like it would be awful and I will probably have to attempt it soon.

The rear window targa is impossible. When I take it to the local pros it takes them damn near all day and then they have six guys pushing on it.

My recent targa glass experience:

Rushing to try and finish my 73 in time for a DE (I didn't), I started calling around for a glass installer who could and would do it. Most never called me back, but a nice young guy did and said it wouldn't be a problem. I swear he told me he had done them before. He and his helper left around midnight that first day after getting the windshield half ass installed and wrestling with the rear glass. To my surprise, they actually showed back up the next day and tried to get the targa glass in, but never could. They ruined my trim and left with the glass partially installed. I haven't messed with it since then, and I'm not sure whether I'll need to cut the seal to remove it or not.

So, I get the name of the local glass guru and call him. Repeatedly. Finally, he calls me back and says, "oh, I think I have the wrong number." I say, "no, no, you don't...you're so and so the glass expert, right? I have this targa..." We arrange to talk the following Monday to schedule a time to meet. That was the last I heard from him. For about two weeks, I left daily voicemails. I think he called me back by mistake the first time.

Oh well, I'm going to do this myself, and take the money I would have paid someone and blow it on something extravagant.

Ive done about a dozen windshields on the 911 cars and have spent anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hrs getting the seal drop in . One time I replaced a front shield (dropped right in 1st time) in a car that only 1 month later I decided to have repainted . Getting it in the second time took over an hour and that was with help from 2 guys . So its really all about initial placement and even more about luck . Thats just my experience anyway . Ive never done one alone so hats off to you .

What makes it really fun is when you put just a little too much pressure in the wrong place and crack! The glass breaks and there's no going back. I'm told the rear targa glass is hard to break though.
