Door Repair Help Needed (door check issue)

Preparing a 77 for strip and paint and the drivers door area at the door check is pulled through. I know Pelican makes a reinforce kit. Will this be sufficient to fix the door or do I need to weld it up as well. Seems pretty tough to get in that area with a welder and I have not seen the reinforce kit. Any help appreciated

Mine were completely torn out. During my repaint, I had the doors off and completely apart. We repaired the affected area with sheetmetal. The reinforcement kit would be good if your doors are in pretty good shape to begin with, but if they are torn out you need to weld in a repair.

I thought my door checks were shot, but upon inspection I found them to be fine. Just needed a little elbow grease to make them look like new.

Thanks for that link Flintsone. It led me to the answers. Don't know why I could not find it. The interesting part is that I found out why my 84 is so hard to close and I have been worring about that door pulling out as well but the repair kit has already been done with the newer style door check. They really do need to be ground down because they are just too stiff even with lube. I may break down and yank it out and grind those bumps down a little. Thanks!

No problem. Glad to help. This comes up several times a year and we usually just recycle the answers. Serch often comes up short due to terminology. Door stay is the more accepted name for the component. Good luck.
