Changing from pwr to manual windows

I am considering Changing my pwr windows to manual on my 74 911
Besides the window regulator and adding a window cranks
is anything else needed. Also has anybody have these parts or no where to find them used
Thanks Chuck

I did'nt get your reply Kevin

Kevin Stewart 09-24-2005 08:43 PM

why would you want to, ?? makes no since,

eskimo 09-25-2005 09:35 AM

(why?)
I would say weight and simplicity, but tht's why I'm looking at the same thing for my car..
I have never seen retrofit kits or many postings on it though, so maybe it's just not worth the hassle.

Do the RSA's have roll up windows?

Don Plumley 09-25-2005 10:12 AM

If memory serves, if you do a search on the archives, I seem to remember the weight savings is negligble to convert the electric mechanism to a roll up mechanism. I think the old RS' has a leather strap mechanism to manually pull up and secure the window. More knowledgeable folks than me might chime in.

I think total weight saved is one lb, total dollar spent is, really no reason to change, Kevin

I want to change them because they the windows do not work right. Always slow going up and down . Somtimes not working at all. Just thought It might be easier to change to none power.
Thanks

it might be easier but few have done this, so you'd be a pioneer

have you checked the window channels re the slowness?

Kevin Stewart 09-25-2005 10:09 PM

yea the felt in the channels can be bad or the chanels are loose in any case if you dont replace the channels or repair them it will be hard to roll up the window with a hand crank, Kevin

Thank you all for the reply.
I have checked the window channels They seem okay.
Thanks again- Chuck

Try some silicone lubricant in the window channels. It's a quick and cheap way to speed up slow power windows. On my old SC it lasted about a year before I had to spray it again.
