rich fuel mix

Hi guys,
Has anyone any experience of using the colour tune system (marked under gunsons name in UK and its a little glass eye piece thing so you can see the colour of the combsution flame in the cylinder) for getting the fule mix right on early 911's.
Think I might be running rich and am trying to establish a good way of establishing the basic quantity of petrol going in before balancing the air intake.
Regards
