Intro at last

Well, after lurking and posting occasionally for quite some time, I think its finally time for an introduction. I've been meaning to do this for a while, but I just got around to taking some pics of my car so here she is.
1983 SC, pewter with black interior. I am the second owner, although technically I could be considered the first as I grew up with this car. The first owner is my father. He used it as his daily driver from 1983 to 1988 until he got sideswiped on the LIE by a woman applying her makeup during traffic. He went and bought a Dodge Ramcharger, the original SUV, and the Porsche was relegated to weekend drives. I got my hands on it around seven years ago and started giving it some regular exercise until it needed a full engine and tranny rebuild. So the motor is basically stock, with 20/21 cams, backdated heat, a/c delete and a dual out flowmaster.
I have been working on this car myself over the last few years trying to save money as I finish med school and I could not have done any of it if not for this board and all the guys at Pelican Parts. This is the first place I turn to when I'm having trouble or when I need some good ideas to keep me busy on the weekends.
So, just wanted to say hi at last and thanks to everyone who posts on this bbs.

Woah!

Is your dad chasing another son!? :D

Really nice SC, great colour combo; and I love that it doesn't have a naff "turbo" style tail bolted off the back! Very clean.

9dreizig 09-24-2005 04:30 PM

Hey isn't that an Illinois plate?? You're not Ferris Bueller's buddy are you? hehehe

Jordan,

Welcome to the active part of the Forum. No one should be afraid of jumping from “lurk” mode to “post” mode. I did it and survived.

Nice 911SC! You have your priorities straight – Med school first, cool automobile collection second. Clearly your dad understood that.

What are your plans for the SC?

Best,
Grady

Hi Jordan.. Gorgeous car..welcome to the fun. Dan

Bob's Flat-Six 09-24-2005 05:45 PM

Welcome :)

KWIQSLVR 09-25-2005 11:39 AM

thanks for the welcome guys.
yeah, i was really fortunate to be born into a gearhead family. we love anything that has to do with cars. Even my sister has a nice 350Z and is finally understanding what I've been saying for years about driving a stick.
my next big project for the sc is going to be a full suspension overhaul. Bilstein sports and hd's, upgraded t-bars and sways and of course polybronze bushings. This isn't going to happen for a while, but i can still plan it. I would of course love to make it a short stroke 3.2 and maybe switch it over to carbs or efi at some point in the future. My next realistic mod is probably going to be SSI's with another dual out flowmaster. I gotta tell you guys, i love that flowmaster. This thing sounds like a race car, especially once you get the revs past 4000. People are always asking me about it and if I have a V-8 under there. I also want to get some 9 inch fuchs for the rear, but those seem to be real tough to come by and not really in my budget.
so for now, im just enjoying the car the way it is and trying to maintain it myself. I do also have a real serious sound system in the back where the rear seats used to be. I know it adds a lot of weight, but i've always been into car audio systems and it sounds really good. I am always looking for things to take off the car to try and offset the weight addition. plus i kind of like the look of a semi-stripped down car. sort of racer for the street, you know?
well, this post kind of went on for a while. sorry about that, i'm just excited about posting on this board for real.
looking forward to delving into things here.
btw, what do you think of the ride height? i cant decide if its too high or just right. any suggestions/critiques are welcome.
thanks!

SpeedracerIndy 09-25-2005 02:32 PM

Nice looking SC! Mine is very similar to yours. I like the clean no tail look also. Ride height looks perfect to me. Mine is just a bit lower and I have trouble getting into driveways and over curbs.

I'm going to have to look into that Flowmaster muffler. I keep hearing lots of good stuff about it. I have a Bursch now, and it's a bit loud, sounds pretty mean, and it's grown on me.

Nice ride, mine is a rolling project. Im only a town away. See ya on the road.

Jordan,
Welcome to the board, and congrats on talking your Dad outof the SC!

Is that a european delivery plate on the front? Anyway, the SSI's would be a real good first step enginewise, then you can check out the efi conversion stuff being done here as well.

Jordan, welcome aboard, very nice car and you're dad's collection looks great, perfect for a Ferris Bueler vacation. BTW, you're gonna have to ticket your dad for parking the red MG in the spot that's clearly marked Porsche Parking only. ;)

lol not an MG? what is it? I thought maybe an old Jag, but didn't see the hood ornament. But yeah if it's not Porsche or muscle car, I don't know too much about them lol

silverc4s 09-25-2005 03:41 PM

Jaguar XK 140 roadster, I'd say. It's been a while since I was around much Brit car stuff, too. Just ribbing you, no offense meant...:)

ScottKelly911 09-25-2005 03:46 PM

lol nah, I didn't take offense, I knew you were playing around. :D

Jordan,

Welcome aboard! Beautiful car!! Get your father onboard here, too!

lateapex911 09-25-2005 06:56 PM

Welcome! Nice car, and I love the diversity of the home ground!

The Ferrari is ..ummm..sweeeet!

your sister isn't single, is she...?

;)

KWIQSLVR 09-29-2005 04:38 PM

Hey all,
sorry I haven't replied sooner, no access to a computer this week.
to answer some questions:
mc 140, you're right, the other red car is a '59 Jaguar XK150.

silverc4s, that is a european plate, not from delivery though. I had to put my NYS plate over it after I got ticketed while parked at a gas station. Don't ask! Sometimes I think I should just paint a big red bullseye on this car.

lateapex: yeah, the f-car is awesome. One of the quickest cars i've ever driven. and btw, my sister is single, but you sound like a nice guy and i wouldn't wish that on any p-car enthusiast. jk, she's a great kid, just a bit much at times.

hey jpc1818, you ever go out to the old OBI on ocean parkway on sunday? Usually a big gathering of all kinds of nice cars and bikes, usually at least a few porsches.

JeremyD 09-29-2005 04:47 PM

does you dad want to adopt another son? Nice vettes too. Fiat ain't bad - neither is the british leyland...

Oh - and welcome ..............SmileWavy

trj911 09-29-2005 05:01 PM

Welcome! We can always use another SC around here! Funny, my dad has a Jag that looks very similar. An aluminum bodied 53 xk120 dhc. They are beautiful cars!
