WOT question
Hi,
When i press the accelerator all the way to the floor, the throttle doesn't open all the way in my opinion. I've read threads about this and know how to fix this. But my question is as follows. I've read information about a WOT actuator that adjusts mixture settings and ignores the O2 sensor under full throttle. When i press the accelerator fully when driving, there is a notable change in exhaust note, and the engine sound becomes more of a deep burble. Does that mean that my WOT actuator is comming into effect? Or is it just when the throttle is opened more than say 85% the 3.2 makes this type of sound? Thanks! |
nobody??

If you open the throttle fully or near-fully, the engine sound is going to get deeper/louder/throatier/etc because noise is coming out the intake that the throttle plate normally deafens. No idea about the WOT actuator you mention, I've never heard of it.

I don't know of the sound that you refer to. Not sure if there is a correlation between WOT and a specific sound. You can easily check if your throttle is opening 100%, which is where I'd start.
There is a microswitch that lets the computer know that you are at WOT and that the fuel maps are in open loop (O2 sensor no longer has input) when the switch is engaged. Doug |
Have someone sit in your car and press your gas pedal to the floor, You can see if the accelerator actuates the WOT switch - take a flashlight and you can see it. after adjustment, also make sure it has enough adjustment to acuate the idle switch.
Adjustment is along the driver's side of the transmission. |
Activation of the WOT switch is determined not by sound, but by a closed connection of the upper two pins of the full throttle microswitch on the throttle body. You will need a continuity tester or multimeter to check this. The switch should activate by 2/3 to 3/4 throttle opening. Also, if your throttle linkage is not pulling the throttle open all the way, you will need to adjust it as Jeremy says, usually under the car. Have someone press on the gas pedal, while you check to see how far it opens. You would be surprised how many owners do not check and remedy this. The difference is around 10-15 hp. I've recently been getting dyno sheets from 3.2 owners with wacked up air fuel ratio data, attributed to a non-activating switch, which tell me even astute owners are not checking this basic function.
Here is the WOT switch: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127783969.gif Runfile 003 shows what happens when you go full throttle without the WOT switch activating. You can see it goes very rich above 5000, and the resultant HP loss. Run files 006 and 011 shows what happens when the switch activates. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127784556.gif |
