Uhh- Crap!.. Need AAR
 

When is someone going to make a modern fix for these... Mine is bypassing the same amount just out of the freezer as when I had the car warmed up to operating temp...stuck 3/4's closed...it moves freely...oh well..

will one off of a 930 fit? Much cheaper....for no reason.. thanks Porsche!...?

If the AAR interiod disc does not move over a temperature range, then might not be getting power to it. Have you checked?

If it is getting power, You can take it apart and see if a wire is broken to the heating element. Drill out the four rivets that hold the end plate on and disassemble the inside -- it is easy to figure out.

A while back, someone did a repair to the heating element and posted a great article with pix. He actually redid the heating element to make the AAR heat up faster.

Thanks Brian. I did remember someone rebuilding it. I believe it was member "mysterytrain" I searched the posts but, never could find his rebuild pics/post. eveything seems to move freely but the spring pushes it back to 3/4 closed. It seemed (maybe my imagination) to be slighty more closed when it was hot right off the car. I'll call you if I dont run across the thread on the rebuild.

...From the looks of the picture it doesnt open all the way on that one either but, mine sure didnt close. Its got 12v to it when running. I'll drill it out and see if its just a broken solder joint or something...

Mine didn't open all the way. The colder the temperature the more it will be open. You need to remember, the larger the opening the faster the car will idle. A cold engine screaming at 2.5K will scare the crap out of you. Once you have the idle speed under control by moving the pin or bending the bimetal strip you need to work on getting the opening to close completely in about 5 or 6 minutes or whatever works for your engine. Like the otheres have said check the connector and make sure there is 12volts going to the the AAR. The check the resistance of the AAR at the terminals. Mine was originally 18 ohms or so and I rewired it to be around 33 ohms. You can also clean the unit up and lubricate it so the disc will have an easier time closing. If all that fails then open her up.

Brian, I re-wired my AAR so that it would take longer to heat up.

No its still on my computer desk at home!..from when it came out of the fridge. I never did see pics of knocking the pin.. I'll have to look at that.

It's a beech when parts from a 25 year old car fail. It's unacceptable!
AAR's work for a very long time without problems; I hope that the only major problem for my 911 will be a failed AAR.
Get a used one; they are not year-specific.
