Or bushings. Did you align it afterwards?
|
no, didn't align it....bushings on a-arms came from car with 90K miles on it.

I believe your torsion bar is rubbing on the a-arm....

Squeaking torsion bar
If it sounds like the noise of a bad bedspring heard through the wall of a $20 motel (not that I have any experience with this) its most likely the torsion bars. Trust me, I just went throught the whole diagnostic routine and it turned out to be "The Weld Thing". Search the archives for squeak & torsion bar & weld. You will find the fix to your squeak.

The weld thing is simply placing a weld bead on the adjuster cap to help re center the bar in the arm. It is simple. An easy way to test this is to jack the car up and place a small shim (washer perhaps) under the cap between it and the crossmember. This will recenter the torsion bar. Go for a drive. Noise gone? Great, get out the welding set up. The nice thing about this is it takes about 10 min to do and does not require any disassembly to test.

can i keep driving with sqweak for next couple days? dangerous? thanks.
|
Sure can
If its the torsion bar squeaking inside the tube, no real emergency. I suspect your nerves will cry uncle before your suspension does.

We had a squeak in our Carrera that was driving us nuts for months, checked everything, all the obvious stuff.. It turns out to be located at the point in the strut assembly where the shock tube is pressed into the meaty part of the lower strut assembly 90 degrees opposite from the spindle. I used a dry silicone lube(careful of the rotor!), that worked for a while, then I used some wd40. The lube relies on gravity to run down into the cavity surrounding the shock tube. The squeak is gone for now, but I know next spring it will return. The strut assembly is quite expensive, so we'll have to just treat the symptoms. Glenn
