Possible to backdate

a 964 to the 3.2 style cars? Do I need special/replica fuchs wheels or are there any that will fit? If anyone here has done such a conversion show me your pics. Thx!

there was a german outfit that made up 3 piece rims using fuchs centers for their 964 > 73 RS backdate. that can certainly be done here in the states- Lindsey and ourselves make up 3 piece rims with fuchs centers.

the problem is up front. the negative scrub radius and front track width of the 964 really pushes the center of the wheel way out there, so it looks "funny" . Best to make a 73 or 74 RSR backdate on a 964 so you have some decent depth rims as well as more room in the fenders for the oil cooler, a/c condenser, etc

A temp solution might be to paint the centers black on the stock wheels for the 964... with everything else changed it wont look out of place. We just had a thread on painting wheels black and there were a few with just centers painted with the silver lip.. keeps the look. Everything else should be straight forward

GWL,
The significantly easier thing to do would be to buy an 87 or 88 3.2 911 and put the newer 3.6 engine in it.

unless he wants tiptronic but like impact bumpers or something else that might complicate things..

I've been thinking I'd put an iroc front bumper fascia on a 964 and leave everything else as is. I asked the 964 board if this mod is possible, but no response. Anyone here have a thought on this?

Odd that you can put a c2/4 fascia on a Carrera/SC, but not the other way around...

without a lot of modifications, i doubt the iroc style front bumper would work easily. you might have to get different oil cooler and a/c condenser set up. The shrouding would have to be fabricated to match. You would spend more time and money on what is not seen than on the front spoiler. The space created by a C2/4 front fascia is larger in volume than the iroc
