Which dia/width Fuch for the spare tire? What size tire?
This is more appealing than the steel goofball in there now.....

5.5”x15” with a donut is same size as original steel or alloy disk. Same wheel with 195x60 or 185/175x70 works gives SC tyre height F&R. Don’t bother with a Z rated tyre

For which car C man? A 15 will fit over the 930 calipers, but a late model aluminum 16" space saver is required for big reds or the like.

A 5.5" will need to be modified to accept a space saver tire. The bead is necessary on the outer part of the rim, otherwise the tire falls in the shallow part of the rim and can't be inflated. I have one such rim if you are interested.
Otherwise a late 6X15 with the bead is perfect. 6X16 can be done too. 5.5X15: 6X15: 6X16 (courtesy of a Pelican member): And the lightest I could do:

Craig, no rim smaller than 17" will fit over 993TT brakes (maybe a moduar BBS MG race rim in 16"??). So the only way you'd have a Fuchs as a spare would be to commission one in 5.5X17" from Lindsay racing. That would be a nice first.

Doesn't the 996 or 993 Turbo have a small tire on a large diameter spare rim?

George, what do you want for the modified 5.5? What's the finish on it?
Cheers,

is the same as the 70s/80s 911s, right? Wonder if this would plop right in the well -

Michael, sent a PM. On the other board. Your mail box is full here.
Craig, yes that one fits your car, don't know agout the spare wheel well though. Drums, no mods necessary on a 6X16 to fit the collapsible spare. Last edited by GeorgeK; 05-15-2005 at 12:49 AM.. |

> no mods necessary on a 6X16 to fit the collapsible spare I now have a factory 16" spare wheel & tire and a nicely refinished 16x6" Fuchs, but I've stopped by two tire shops here in San Diego and both say they can't move the collapsible spare from one wheel to other. Any tricks? Where can I send and take the wheels to have this done? -Steve |

You need to find a tire shop that will listen to you. It can be done, it is only a matter of trying. Use loads of tire soap. The last one I had done, the tire guy looked at the wheel, and 30 seconds later the tire was off. He did not even think about it.

Guys be careful with GeorgeK, he lead me down this road with a BBS race wheel; for me it was quite hard getting the two rim halves to close. I can attest to the fact that the collapsable spare can be removed from the steel rim.
I'm so glad GK turned me on to this idea. j.p.
