89 Carerra 3.2 Wheel Spacers

I'm looking to add spacers to the rear (stock) Fuch wheels of my 89 Carrera. This is to fill the fender wells (cosmetically), possibly even to help reduce some oversteer...

Anyway, after searching, I am still a little confused. 1/4 spacers are a direct fit, no longers studs needed, etc. However, 6mm or so? Is that going to be enough to push the wheels to the edge of the fenders? If I move to 1" spacers (Pelican sells these with studs in the spacers), are the tires going to rub? Any experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

The ones with studs are actually adapters. Adding 1" will not be a problem. You will have plenty of clearance.

Welcome to the board !

I recently fit 7 mm spacers on rear end of my `85. Wheels hardly reached fender lip and on top of that my bolts didnīt have more than 6 or 7 turns of thread left.

Kind of hoping my rear wheels wonīt be catching up with me in the next high speed corner...

Do you have a slate grey metallic 911? If you do, I'd ;ove to see some pics as I have one myself. I always thought the stock Fuchs that came on the '89s filled out the wells nicely.

Does the car currently have the 16x8 rear Fuchs that came standard on US '89 Carreras?

Here's the best pic I have showing the rear fenders. I'll shoot one tonight to show a better shot of the clearance...

Yes, as far as I am aware, these are indeed the original 16x8's.

Here is my 87, before spacers:

With 21mm H+R spacers:

And after ride-height:

The full effect (1/4" front wheel spacers too):

Could have gone a bit more than 21mm in the rear without working the lip.

Nicely done Don!

That is exactly what I was looking for!

I presume your 87 has the 8" Fuch's on the back?

1" is ~25mm so that should be great. One question - did you replace the studs or just use adapters like what Pelican is selling?

Those look like 7's in the rear on your car, not the stock '89 8's, in which case Don's approach looks pretty good.

Tim, I think you nailed it. I jacked the car up when I got home, checked the inside of the wheel - reads the following:

7 Jx16
ET 23.3

Running 225/50 16's. I have a bunch of pics I can post tomorrow for those who might stumble on this thread later.

I presume that 7 in the Jx16 means this is a 7" wheel. Previous owner must've replaced the original 8's with these (not sure why though)...

Thanks for all that helped me figure this one out...

Thanks. I have 7" rears. Yes, the H+R are similar to the ones Pelican sells - adaptors. It's the easiest way. If I ever turn the car into a track monster, then I'll run studs and spacers.

Another way to fill the rear would be a nice set of 9's.

Yep 7 & 9s with 205/55 and 245/45s are the way to go. You can still add 1/4" spacer to the 245s in the rear.
