Carfax needed. Someone?

Hi, i am after a car in my area that sounds suspect. Is one of you could run a Carfax for this VIN? Problem is that the VIN on the door jamb isnt matching the written one on the seller's paperwork. Thanks!

WP0ES0910ES162167

WP0EB0910ES162167

As you see only one digit isnt matching. Can someone clear my mind?

Thanks!

WP0ES0910ES162167 - The first title for this vehicle was reported to CARFAX by a Quebec DMV in 1993. 06/13/2003 Odometer reported as 112,000 kilometers

WP0EB0910ES162167 - Carfax has no records

However, I don't think I would touch a car if the paperwork(title?) & car don't agree. Make the seller fix it.

I'll add that it should be a 1984 Carrera Targa. Is it?

It might have never been in the US so maybe CARFAX has no record because of that. I agree, that's perplexing. The other number comes up though, but I can't find an official reference to an ID that includes an S after the E, only a P after the E. Wierd.

This is interesting.

What's the ID number under the front trunk's carpet, next to the smuggler's hatch say? As you open the trunk and pull away the carpet, look to the left of the smuggler's hatch. It should be there and it should agree.

That VIN checked out fine when I typed it into Carfax (just the free VIN checker):
VIN: WP0EB0910ES162167
Year/Make/Model: 1984 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA
Body Style: CONVERTIBLE
Engine Type: 3.2L H6 FI
Manufactured In: GERMANY
Search Results: 0 records found in our database

It's possible there just are no records for it. When was it imported to Canada and where from? Carfax would only have records (I believe ) for Canada and the US.

I work in used car financing - one letter or digit wrong in the VIN on the bill of sale is common, and 99 times out of 100 just a simple mistake, especially O's and zeros, 5 and S, 1 and I, etc. Remember, there are no letters O, Q or I in a VIN. I wouldn't be scared of the seller just because they made that mistake, but make sure you get it corrected before you close the deal.

Edit: that's a ROW VIN, but - and correct me if I'm wrong - doesn't the "this vehicle conforms to all federal blah blah..." only appear on US cars?

Hi,

I don't even see any chasssis numbers that start with 'WP0ES'. It is an RoW car,. Could the 'S' be a 'Z' - transposed incorrectly? There are models with 'WPOZ', although they contain three z's in a row... Got the info from "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan.

Yes it is. But as i said, the VIN the seller has on its paperwork - we didnt have a chance to look at the title yet, isnt matching the one on the doorjamb, but only by a digit.

My question is. The VIN pictured on the previous photograph isnt returning anything on Carfax. When i say nothing, i mean mean NO RECORD in database!!!!!

But the one the seller gave us is showing that the car comes from Quebec. Good thing as the car is still in Quebec, but...

How can Carfax returns no record in their database for the VIN on the car is still a mystery....

- - -

Writting this after reading previous posts. The VIN on the car is WP0EB... and is WP0ES... on the paperwork! The last digits are the same.

I will try to look elsewhere on the car to check is REAL VIN.

- - -

How many chances in the world do i have that the mistake the seller made by writting an S instead of a B is ending with the exact same car?

I mean, the seller gave me a VIN that is not the one on the car (by only one digit), and what comes out with that wrong VIn is the GOOD description????

I am puzzled. Please help me regain my sanity...

Hi,

My VIN shows it to be a RoW as well, but it isn't. It's a one family car, I have all the paperwork. I'm confused. There still are no VIN #'s starting 'WPOES'.

My advice would be to call a dealership in the morning and see what they say. Is it possible to replace a VIN plate? If so, maybe someone put the B instead of the S?

If it's an invalid VIN, carfax will tell you so. If it shows no records, it means you've got a valid VIN, just carfax has no records. I could see that being the case for a relatively new car, but not for one 20 years old!

Definitely a confusing situation!

Read the one in the trunk. That should give you a more definitive answer.
