Engine Stand Mount w/o Ring?

Has anybody ever mounted a 911 and/or a 914 engine on an engine stand withount the Porsche or aftermarket engine ring? I was told it is possible but trying to visualize how? Anybody have any photos?

Thanks

I fabbed up something to contact the flange as opposed to just contacting the 4 stud locations, but I have heard of others just using long bolts and pipe spacers.

I made some 1"x1"x1/4" aluminum spacers, and drilled a hole close to one edge, inserted them between the detroit iron engine stand and the tranny lip on the case.
