Emergency brake light stays on 1981 SC

Just yesterday when I released the E- brake the light stays on. What are the reasons for this?

Thank you
Barclay

Check your brake fluid level as well. Low fluid level can also trigger the light.

Cheers,

As can a failing alternator; brake warning light is used as a type of "master alarm". Jim

Brake fluid is full. So are you saying the brakes are going when the light comes on or the master cylinder? I did adjust the e-brake cable about two weeks ago would that do it?

Check the micro switch under the E-Brake handle. Make sure it's hitting that switch to turn off the light.

I just went through this about 2 months ago with my 82.
Unhook the battery for about 30 seconds. Hook it back up and start the car if the light stays out you need to replace the 2 switches on the master cylinder. They operate indipendatly but are tied togeather as a way of checking each other. Check to see if you have brake lights.

I might add it happeed while my wife was driving the car she got scared " I broke Ricks Porsche!" It was a good laugh.

If it is not the parking brake switch the light will dim slightly when you release the brake lever.

Are we talking the E-Brake or the Brake Pad wear light?

I don't believe an 81 has a pad sensor on it. I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time

There is no wear sensor on the brakes. There is one on the master cylinder if your fluid is low. So I check it and put a very small amount in. Then I pulled the clock out unplugged the brake light switch and plugged it back in....it seemed to work.

Thanks to everyone for there help
